Arne Jacobson is Director of the Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC) and Professor in the Environmental Resources Engineering Department at Humboldt State University. His work focuses on the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, including areas of focus in solar energy, biomass energy, energy efficiency, and energy access in off-grid areas of Africa and Asia. As the director of SERC, he leads a team of 30 faculty, staff, and students engaged in research projects related to clean and renewable energy. Arne is a recipient of the 2015 Wang Family Excellent Award. He was also a member of a team that received the Secretary’s Achievement Award in 2012 from Secretary Stephen Chu of the U.S. Department of Energy Secretary. Arne has a Ph.D. from the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley, a master’s degree focused on Environmental Resources Engineering (Humboldt State University), and a bachelor’s degree in physics (Earlham College).
