Dr. James H. (Jim) Dooley is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Forest Concepts, LLC in Auburn, Washington. Dr. Dooley has built his career by combining a deep understanding of plant biology with disciplined engineering design and business development to create innovative products, processes and equipment. Jim previously held a number of engineering, technical management and business development positions with Weyerhaeuser company in the timber industry, and with Amfac agricultural group in the sugar cane and tropical fruit industries. His bio-energy work is currently in its fifth iteration — following the cycles of energy crises in America. Current developments by Forest Concepts are reducing the energy intensity for comminution and drying, as well as new methods to collect and delivery biomass from fields to centralized depots and processing sites.
Jim’s roles in the Waste to Wisdom project is to lead the development and specification of in-woods forest residuals balers as an alternative to in-woods grinding and to advise the conversion and feedstock teams on biomass characterization.
